On the Go Again

Our cold spell has passed and we are enjoying sunny, warm weather once again.  Yesterday was another great day with the girls.  We had planned another trip, this time to Tarpon Springs, which is about an hour and a half south and west of here.  There were five of us on this trip.

These are sponges shaped like baskets. Makes a great flower pot holder!

We sure had fun browsing in the shops along the pier!  We watched a video in one shop explaining the different sponges and their uses and the different parts of the world where they grow. The shopkeepers were so friendly and such a happy lot.  It is a Greek community teeming with wonderful Greek restaurants and bakeries.  Delightful aromas abound!  After lots of thought, we settled on Mykonos for our lunch.  It was GREAT!   We all ordered something different and did a bit of sharing.  I had some wonderful shrimp, in garlic and herb butter and we all had these super good Greek potatoes.  We asked how they prepared them and were told they were peeled and baked in olive oil and lemon juice!   Super good!  Others tried 2 different eggplant dishes and a gyro. All came with Greek salads.

After lunch, we did more wandering and window shopping all the bakeries.  We finally succumbed to the tantalizing sights and scents wafting from these quaint little shops.  Being too sated to eat any more,
we bought some goodies to take home.   Baklava was the choice of most of us.  Later, at home it proved to be the right choice... so honey-sweet, nutty and with a great filo dough.  So much for the diets today!

I was reading my friend Cyndy's blog today and found it ironic that she was writing today about how we need to spend time with other women friends.  How true this is.  We need to help, build up, laugh and share our lives with other like creatures.  We find we really enjoy our little day trips together and can relate to the same likes and experiences.

So grab a friend, or two, or more.  Take a little jaunt or just put on the teapot and call them over for a chat and a laugh or two.  You'll be blessed and they will too.

  1. Thanks, Dottie, for this post! We do think alike, don't we? I wish I was there. What fun that looked like! Good food and really neat sponges!
Today our friend Evelyn (my friend Dotty's mother) is coming up to Moms for some soup and cornbread. It snowed last night, but not much and the sun is out beautifully now! Have a great day!
